Artwork Description
I enjoy finding bundles of cardboard by shopfronts and on the street, I like how it can stack so effortlessly or look good even when it’s disorganised. I document my findings and often take some, feeling unsure of how to transform it into something useful or special.
I’ve been collecting paper waste and cardboard packaging for months. I was beginning to feel uneasy about how much recyclable material can accumulate at home, work, and elsewhere. It feels so excessive.
Mantlepiece Sculptures are miniature versions of future or dream artworks, inspired by architectural shapes. I like arches, pillars, ruins and bridges found in industrial and ancient architecture. Having cut and shaped offcuts of wood, I have created playful forms that are smothered in my own clay recipe, made from paper and cardboard waste.
I hope they are happy in your home, and most importantly fit on your mantlepiece.
